What looks beautiful, has in fact destructive power…

The reason why we didn’t blog for a while was is the current state of Dresden’s river Elbe, that can only be described as: way too high. It’s only 9 years since the Great Flood of 2002 when the historic Altstadt of Dresden was underwater. Back then the results of the flood were devastating: artwork was destroyed, restaurants shut down and some people couldn’t return to their houses.

Dresden learned a lot from this catastrophe and put up dikes, identified retention areas and set up mobile flood walls near historic places. Still, nobody had expected the next flood to come that early. Luckily, our homes were not affected by this year’s flood, but some of our relatives and friends were indeed in need of help. So that’s we we rather carried boxes but blogged the last days…
