Baroque Neustadt – guided walk

A fire in 1685 destroyed the former "Altendresden" (= Old Dresden) and made it a playground for king Augustus the Strong, whose baroque architects designed the "New King's Town of Dresden". The plans didn't take much care about the Altendresden residents - a church was removed, impressive baroque streets were planned and in the end, even a statue of the riding Augustus was placed in the middle of the town.

50 years after the Dresden bombing, this quarter is a perfect mixture of architectural styles - there's a baroque palais next to GDR block buildings and not far away you'll meet some historistic shopping buildings. A lot of reasons to take a closer look to the city's art district with galleries, crafts shops and more....
