What cycling tourist guides are good for…

Last week we guided some school classes through Dresden – ten-year-olds, who want to hear year dates and architectural epoches even less than adult guests. That’s why we chose to tell them about Dresden inventors, everyday life in the Baroque epoche and the question, whether or not men may go into the Frauenkirche (which literally translates to “women church”) 😉

This church is simply amazing!

This church is simply amazing!

“My” fourthgraders were very curious about the city and already had learned some facts about Dresden at school. Not everything was new to the children – one of the kids knew the Princes Procession by heart, another one was even born here. Anyhow, at the Frauenkirche every little face showed some amazement when I told them how it was destroyed and rebuilt. When we went in, they seemed to be quite excited about it – but still kept quiet in the church room.

About an hour later I had to say farewell at Theatre Square, when suddenly a boy shouted out to the teacher: “I forgot my bag!”. We soon found out he must have left it at the Frauenkirche. As neither by foot nor by bus the church can be reached shortly, I got on my bike and came back 10min later with the bag of my little guest. Everyone was happy – including me…

Reminder to myself: always check whether guests have their bags after going into Frauenkirche!
