Friday is free-ticket-day

Free entrance for the Dresden municipal museum.

Free entrance for the Dresden Stadtmuseum.

A coffee here, a bus ticket there, some extra costs for accomodation and food… money runs away fast when it comes to a short city trip. That’s why it’s very nice to get a glance of Dresden for free sometimes.

The municipal museums of Dresden have a very special gift for their guests: every Friday afternoon you get in for free. That’s a good reason to have a look at old cars in the traffic museum, experiment and at the technical museum “Technische Sammlungen” and discover the typical life of romanticist artists in the Kügelgenhaus. Even the famous Hygienemuseum opens its doors for free!

If you are a Dresden first-timer, you might want to visit the Dresden City Museum at Landhausstraße: this is where you get a first glance at the city’s history, ranging from the first settlings in the Elbe area to GDR architecture and recent topics. The exhibits of the Dresden bombing in 1945 are also very impressive. Plus, if you like to see some art, there’s a small modern gallery in this museum as well.

One is for sure: one Friday afternoon is not enough to see all of the Dresden museums, you will want to come back! That’s when a full day ticket might be worth it…
