Wintertime is training time

Did you ever ask yourself what people in the tourism business do during the winter – in the time when hotels are rather empty, the sun is in the south and beer gardens are closed? Well, the answer is: cleaning up, going on vacation and brushing up one’s knowledge.

SLUB Dresden, the library where we like to read for new tours…

The first thing to do is the clean-up part – not only do we take care of our home (that we might not have seen so often in high season), but also do we need to take care of accounting, unanswered difficult questions from guests and the piles of books we have not been able to read. There’s shuffling around, arranging, reading and note taking until – finally – order is restored in the tourist guide’s head and home. Then, we are off to travelling to clear one’s mind and collect inspiration for new touristic ideas.

Actually, not all tourist guides travel all winter, especially since the christmas market “Striezelmarkt” in December is another touristic highlight in the Dresden year. Most of the time we stay in our home town and employ ourselves with the city. We wander museums that we only sped through in summer, we attend lectures and meet for thought exchange…  yes, winter is a wonderful and informative time!

Despite all the joy over the free time and newly acquired knowledge, we all love it when the first spring sun rays are reflected by the water of the Elbe river. This suggests that soon we will again stroll the city with new guests and show the best of Dresden. We can’t wait to be out again, looking forward to you as our guests!
